David and Vicki Leatherwood

David and Vicki Leatherwood have a special place in their hearts for the people of Eastern and Central Africa. They actually met in Rwanda in 2009, where David was working for Living Water International and Vicki was teaching at Kigali International Community School (KICS). David and Vicki were married in 2010 and their oldest son, Judah, was born the following year. They moved from Rwanda to Texas in 2012, and their family has grown since then to include Jacob, Eveyanna, and Isaiah.

David was born in the Philippines, where his parents were serving with Overseas Missionary Fellowship (OMF). He grew up on the mission fields of Mongolia (where David gave his heart to Jesus) and the Middle East. David developed a love for missions during his childhood and felt led to follow that calling throughout the rest of his life. He studied cross-cultural missions at Providence University College, graduating with his bachelor’s degree in 2008. That same year, David joined Living Water International and through his work with that organization, David found himself in Rwanda in 2009… he had a 30-day ticket to Rwanda but the country captured his heart and he spent the next 3½ years there; three of those years as the country director of the Rwanda program for Living Water. It was during this time in Rwanda that the Lord began to plant seeds of a vision to mobilize Rwandan believers as ministers to their neighbors in the DRC.

Vicki was born and raised in Canada and did not step foot on an airplane until the day she departed for Rwanda. Vicki came to love Jesus when she was 8 years old and the Lord spoke to her at that young age, promising that she would become a missionary teacher in Africa one day. Vicki taught in Ontario, Canada for several years before that promise from her youth was fulfilled. In 2009, Vicki applied to teach at several missionary schools throughout the world and within 24 hours, the headmaster of Kigali International Community School (KICS) in Rwanda had contacted her. The Lord was faithful to the word he spoke to an 8-year old girl, and Vicki arrived in Rwanda in August, 2009… three days after arriving, she met David and on that day they first met, the Lord spoke to her once again, “That is the man you are going to marry.”

The Leatherwoods are honored that God has called them once more to serve the Kingdom on the mission field. They are currently living and serving in Rwanda, East Africa. You can find out more about their vision and ministry by clicking here: https://www.kairosafrica.org/about-us
